ABOUT

I began feeding hummingbirds on the portal of our home. It slowly began with one or two feeders and grew to a full time summer project which included my serving 18 one quart feeders filled with nectar, twice a day to my feathered guests. It’s been a labor of love! We host over 3000 hummers per day!

Here, in Santa Fe, we are fortunate to be in the middle of a major flyway as these beautiful and amazing birds migrate from Alaska and Canada to their winter homes in Central America.

After years of sitting on our portal and watching them… I decided that I wanted to photograph them. Now… after every few thousand photographs I am rewarded with a few special ones. I especially look for the interaction…sharpness of the feathers…brilliance of the plumage… and most important to me- the grace of the dance.

These images are NOT composites. Nothing has been added or moved on these portraits. Except for raw conversion and basic processing, they are as shot.

I photograph “moments”, that offer themselves, often only for an instant, waiting to be glimpsed, and captured or not and lost forever… They connect me to the spirit that lives within ALL things… a universal memory. I hope that they will provide a similar gift for you…
